Your Plumbing Problems Solved

IMG_4447Whether you live in a small flat or you own a large house, over the course of your time in your home you will almost certainly encounter some plumbing issues at one point or another. When these problems occur, it can be difficult to know where to start, so this article will look at ways to tackle these issues and keep your plumbing systems working as the should.

Slow Heating

If the water from your taps is taking a long time to heat up, it can be quite a difficult problem to solve. Check your hot water storage tank, if your boiler has one – by connecting all taps on a circulating loop with a constant flow of hot water, you can ensure almost instant hot water as soon as you turn on your taps.

Pipes Freezing

This is very common problem in winter, especially when the temperature suddenly drops to colder temperatures. This is because of water expanding when frozen, which puts a serious amount of pressure on the pipework. In cold weather, you can prevent them from splitting by keeping the water running. Even at a slow pace, the water in the pipes will not freeze.

Poor Drainage

If you notice that water takes a long time to drain from sinks, this is more than likely because a blockage has formed somewhere in the pipes. Pour some strong, reputable drain cleaner down the plughole, wait for a while and see if the problem has cleared. If not, contact a professional plumber who is able to carry out drain surveys to see what the issue is.

Leaking Water Heaters

If your water heater is leaking, then this can be indicative of a rust issue. Rust can corrode the bottom of the storage tank, and unfortunately, this is not easily repairable. If you notice your tank is leaking, it could be time to replace it.

Leaking Pipes

Be sure to check your pipes regularly, or enlist a plumber to check them for you in order to be fully aware of their condition and whether or not they need repairing. Leaking pipes can often start on a small scale and then, if left unchecked, expand to cause considerable damage to floors and walls.
