How Often Should a Gas Boiler Be Serviced?
For things in the home that it’s important to keep working well, your boiler comes pretty close to – if not at – the top of the list. When you have a new boiler installed, it’s a significant investment and one you want to look after properly. After all, if you don’t, you may find yourself having to replace it sooner than would normally be the case.
You also run the risk of leaving yourself without heating or hot water if you have a breakdown – and those are the sort of things that happen when it’s least convenient, such as in the middle of winter.
So this month, the team at A&D Plumbing is looking at how often you should get your boiler serviced – and what could happen if you don’t.
Who should service a boiler?
Gas boilers should always be serviced by a fully qualified heating engineer who is Gas Safe registered. Not only are they most likely to spot any developing issues, they are also trained to be aware of any potential safety issues – a vital consideration when it comes to gas boilers.
When should I have my boiler serviced?
Your gas boiler should be serviced at least once a year, but it’s best to also get an engineer in to take a look if you have any reason to suspect that there may be a problem with it. Never forget that it’s quicker, cheaper and a good deal less hassle to deal with an issue with your boiler when it’s spotted early, as opposed to having to arrange gas boiler repairs when it breaks down completely.
Why should I have my boiler serviced?
Annual boiler servicing does the same job as an annual car service – it makes sure all the working parts are functioning properly and that any potential safety issues are dealt with before they become critical. And because your gas boiler maintenance also ensures it is working efficiently, it’ll cost you less to run.
If it’s a new boiler, annual servicing will also be needed to ensure any guarantees or warranties remain valid.
What does a boiler service involve?
There are a number of things that your engineer will check when he arrives to service your boiler, including, but not limited to:
- Ventilation
- The flue
- Combustion test
- Carbon monoxide levels
- Gas and pressure flow
- Internal components
- Electrical wiring
- Safety devices
- And a lot more!
Reasons to have your boiler checked
- To make sure it’s safe
- To make sure it’s working efficiently
- To check condition of working parts
