- Combi Boiler: Also known as a combination boiler, this type of boiler heats up water as and when you need it. True to their name, they combine water heating and central heating in one unit. This compact, space-saving option bypasses the need for a storage tank, as water will instead heat directly from the mains with one turn of the tap. This only-heat-what-you-need option boasts high energy efficiency.
- Regular Boiler: Also known as conventional boilers and heat-only boilers. These types are best suited to homes that already have a traditional heating or hot water system in place. These systems require the presence of several separate components including a hot water cylinder and a cold water tank in the roof, which feeds down into the boiler system.
- System Boiler: This boiler type heats up both the central heating system and the water for your storage cylinder. By storing hot water it works similarly to a regular boiler, with the key differences being additional components and also the absence of a cold water tank in the loft, saving you valuable attic space.
It’s important to understand how the size of your home influences the type and size of boiler you require. By counting your bedrooms you can gauge a sense of how large your property is and therefore how high the heat and water output will need to be to cater for your size of home.
The more bathrooms you have in your home, the higher the hot water demand will be and therefore the boiler will need a greater capacity for heating and hot water output.
